nefarious- wicked or criminal

pusillanimous- showing a lack of courage or determination

"He who does not lay his foundations beforehand might with great effort lay them afterward, although he would do so with inconvenience to the architect and danger to the building." -Niccolo Machiavelli The Prince

"Of course anyone can be simple if he has no facts to bother about." -C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity

"Good and evil both increase at compound interest. That is why the little decisions you and I make every day are of such infinite importance. The smallest good act today is the capture of a strategic point from which, a few month later, you may be able to go on to victories you never dreamed of." -ibid

"No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good." -ibid

"When the most important things in our life happen we quite often do not know, at the moment, what is going on." -ibid

" Sisters can do a great deal of good in their families by influencing their younger brothers and sisters. The little ones are far more free in talk and manner with them than they are with other people, and so they have opportunities with them which do not belong even to mothers. Sisters may also do much in the way of influencing their schoolboy brothers, and instilling into the reverence for womanhood." -Valine In My Father's House

Caity, Would we call ourselves "quoteaholics?" Love it! My favorites are the ones from Lewis in Mere Christianity. Guess I'll need plenty of paper next to me when reading that one. Thanks for the encouragement!

Caity, I just love your marginalia posts, even though I don't often comment on them. Frequently, one of the quotes from your post will stay with me for several days, shaping and influencing my life. Two stand out to me today. The one about sisters, and I do so see you and Marissa having such a great influence on the boys, and the one from Lewis on the "little" decisions we make each day. I hope I'll be remindful of that one for a long time, exhorting me to live intentionally.

Keep reading, taking notes, looking up words, quoting great writers, and blessing the rest of us with these posts!

I love you!
