Quote #5

Quote #5

"When there is political strife our first approach is to solve that political strife with... politics.... Politics doesn't solve political problems.  Pragmatism is never pragmatic, it's not practical.  The fact is that what causes political strife is that we have a divided people, and we have a divided people because we have a fragmented theology, we have a fragmented theology because we have an incoherent worldview.  You see, its all backwards..... You have to go back to the root."
~George Grant, Gileskirk Christendom Lecture on the Byzantine Empire

Does this cause you to stop and ponder, like it did me?  Is it any wonder there is such controversy surrounding the current election?  Our worldviews are colliding, sadly even among Christians our worldviews collide.  I'm sure I'll be thinking about this for days.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Linda,
We didnt get much of a chance to get to know one another but I sure have enjoyed your families blog.
I know exactly what you are saying.Thank God in this day and age when it seems everything is so up in the air and out of control that God "IS" in control. I think that that comment is exactly true. Christians have compromised so much that we have lost the truth and traded it with a watered down version that is now being preached from most pulpits. I think that is why so many of us have left the big churches, yearning for Gods truth and sincere worship and fellowship.

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead. Proverbs 21:16

America is a dying country. Most churches are full of the "congregation of the dead". I believe many church members have grown far too comfortable to receive "milk" and have little appetite for spiritual "meat." Unlike the Bereans, they are content to hear whatever message is preached without earnestly comparing what they hear with the teachings of Scripture. By attempting to avoid offending seekers and presenting everything in contemporary terms we are overlooking the fact that some things cannot be found in contemporary society. Ideas such as the existence of absolute truth, redemption, and responsibility to our creator are foreign to our society and must be reintroduced in Biblical terms and language. There are now so many "hot" button topics in churches these days that you are not supposed to talk about. Politics, abortion, and homosexuality, are topics that arent discussed from the pulpit, which I believe they should be. Not accepted or taught in the guise of tolerance, but as the Bible refers to them as an abomination, murder or sin. So here is where the compromise begins. Compromise is the birthing ground of sin. Savorless salt producing good-for-nothing Christianity. Which leads us to Grants quote. It is backward, everything moral was weighed with the gospel at one time in this world and now its like a free for all, not weighed or balanced at all. So of course that is going to lead to confusion and devision. All I can say is Lord Come,,, Come.
